This happens to me all the time.

One minute, I feel motivated to do something, and the next, I lose interest completely.

I used to think it was just me, but then I noticed it also happens to everyone: they get excited after hearing inspiring stories or speeches and have a fiery spirit to carry on their work. But it only lasts for a few days. Their fiery spirit is nowhere to be found in them after that.

I then realized that motivation doesn’t last long. The reason? Because it highly depends on our mood at the moment, which can change quickly with everything going on around us.

When we are in a happy mood, everything seems bright and exciting, and we naturally get motivated to do what inspires us. But when that elated mood fades away, that excitement also disappears.

That said, some people do look passionate and excited about something all the time, and it seems like nothing can dampen their spirits.

Is it really like that?

No, I don’t think so. There must be something that keeps them passionate like that all the time.

Yes, it’s their passion. Their purpose. Their dreams. Their goals. These things are what keep them going, no matter what.

Journal #23:

Don’t Rely on Motivation!

Feb 13, 2024

They don’t rely on motivation anymore to get themselves moving.

It’s their purpose that keeps them feeling fulfilled almost all the time.

Life is full of ups and downs, and it’s natural for our enthusiasm to fluctuate. But what sets those who stay motivated apart is their ability to find meaning in their goals.

They understand that setbacks are temporary and see them as opportunities for growth.

They choose to focus on their passions and aspirations and keep moving forward with resilience and determination.

They also understand the importance of taking care of themselves, which helps maintain their mood.

They know their limit. They know when to stop or push themselves more.

When they feel stuck or overly excited, they don’t hesitate to take a break and do something unrelated to relax.

They might go for a walk, listen to music, take a nap, or simple move their bodies.

They find that after calming down or improving their mood, they return to their motivated selves and can continue pursuing their dreams.

They know very well that the time they set aside for themselves is not wasted at all. On the contrary, it's what keeps them going in their marathon without losing their breath before they reach the finish line.
